If you run a shop, clinic, salon or function hall, you have probably heard prices anywhere from a few thousand rupees to more than a lakh for "a website". Both can be honest quotes. They are usually quoting for different things.
This guide explains where the money goes, so you can compare quotes properly.
The three ways to get a website
1. Build it yourself on a website builder. You pay a yearly plan that includes hosting and templates. Hostinger's India guide puts this at roughly ₹2,000–₹6,000 a year. It is the cheapest option, but you do the writing, design and setup yourself.
2. Hire a freelancer. The same guide gives roughly ₹10,000–₹40,000 for a small static site and ₹40,000–₹1,50,000 for a dynamic business site. Quality varies a lot, so look at their earlier work.
3. Hire an agency. For a small business website, the guide puts agencies at roughly ₹50,000–₹1,50,000. You usually get a team, a process and support, and you pay for that.
These ranges are from Hostinger's 2026 guide to website costs in India, and they don't include GST.
The yearly costs nobody mentions in the first quote
A website is not only a one-time payment. Every year you will pay for:
- Domain name (your
.inor.com): roughly ₹500–₹1,500 a year. - Hosting (the server your site lives on): roughly ₹2,000–₹5,000 a year for shared hosting.
- Changes and fixes: new rates, new photos, a new phone number. Some people do this themselves; most pay someone.
Ask every quote: "What will I pay in year two?"
What actually changes the price
- Number of pages. A one-page site is quicker than a 10-page site.
- Who writes the text. If you hand over ready text and photos, it costs less.
- Features. A contact form is simple. Online booking, payments or a login area take more work.
- Updating yourself. If you want to change rates and photos from your phone, the site needs an admin panel.
Five questions to ask before paying
- Will the domain be registered in my name?
- Is the price fixed, and is it written down?
- How many rounds of changes are included?
- What do I pay every year after launch?
- Can I see a demo before I pay?
